If Myles and I had a nickel for every time our flight got canceled after we’d already spent hours at the airport, and we had to go retrieve our checked bags and go home while simultaneously trying to rebook a new flight, we would have three nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened thrice.
I had planned to write a proper dispatch today, but I’d also planned to land in Kansas City last night, not this evening. But! Given our history with flights, Myles and I have made a habit of, whenever possible, booking our flight a full 24 hours before we SHOULD be somewhere. This is why we were so calm when our wedding flight in June got cancelled!
I fly at least once a month and I kind of like delays and cancellations, because they force me to get comfortable with a lack of control. They also distract me from the actual stress of flying—why be anxious about flying when I don’t know if this plane is even gonna take off??? Anyway, the flight itself was totally fine, even with “choppy turbulence” predicted. I spent the entire flight reading Heart the Lover, Lily King’s follow up to her gorgeous gem of a novel, Writers and Lovers. So I DID cry most of the flight, but for good reasons!
I’ll have some end-of-year content for you between now and Jan 1. But for now, happy last Friday Dispatch of the year, and thank you for reading. Everything is just how it’s supposed to be and I’m happy.
